Red Indian has been the big market mover of the day with the eight-year-old backed into favouritism to strike in the Peter Marsh Handicap Chase (2.40) at Haydock.

He is now as short as 9-2 having been available at 12-1 last night, with the testing ground at Haydock a likely factor behind the move. Red Indian has form figures of 121 on going described as heavy.

Clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright said of the ground: "We've been very lucky, we've not had as much rain this week as was forecast.

"We had 5mm of rain overnight and I think they'll go through it better than had it not rained."

Meanwhile he going at Ascot has been updated to heavy, soft in places following a dry night.

There has been no rain at the Berkshire track since Friday morning, and the course's GoingStick readings were 5.5 on the chase course and 5.1 on the hurdle course.

Clerk of the course Chris Stickels said: "The ground was heavy after 11mm of rain yesterday but since 6am on Friday we've been dry and that should continue today, so I've changed the going to heavy, soft in places. But it will be testing, tiring and tacky, particularly after some grass frost.

"Just before the third-last round to just past the winning line it's soft ground."

The drying ground will come as a blow to connections and supporters of Un De Sceaux, who contests the Matchbook Clarence House Chase (3.35) this afternoon.

He has drifted slightly in the betting to 11-8 with some firms but market rival Defi Du Seuil has also been pushed out to evens, having been 5-6 earlier this morning.

A sunny but chilly day is forecast at Ascot, with temperatures set to peak at around 7C.

The going remains heavy at Taunton.

At Lingfield, Saurons Eye is now 5-2 from 12-1 to land the second division of the 1m2f handicap (12.30).

He has finished last on both starts for Ivan Furtado but could be ready to strike off a mark of 55 and wears cheekpieces for the first time.
