Neil Mulholland has called for earlier race times and more specialist staff to be employed after Just Henny was among seven horses disqualified in shambolic circumstances at Fontwell on Sunday.

Just Henny was first past the post in the 2m3f mares' handicap hurdle, but for the second time in less than a year Mulholland lost out on a winner due to confusion surrounding a stricken horse on the track, seven riders having incorrectly bypassed the third-last hurdle as Bluebell Sally was attended to at the landing side. All seven jockeys were subsequently exonerated from any wrongdoing, with confusion caused by racecourse staff.

The incident put racing in the headlines for the wrong reasons for the third time in four days following a controversial dead-heat at Cheltenham on Saturday and the disqualification of a horse at Taunton last Thursday after his rider failed to weigh in correctly. The races at Cheltenham and Fontwell were the last at each meeting, with fading light playing a part in both cases.
