Four horses who should relish the change of going at Doncaster on Saturday
There was a major going change at Doncaster on Saturday morning, with the ground eased to good to soft, soft in places on Cazoo St Leger day. These four horses will benefit from the conditions.
Aidan O'Brien outsider a big St Leger market mover as going eased
Count D'Orsay
Portland Handicap (1.45)
The big sprint handicap has cut up a bit due to the ground but Tim Easterby will be pleased with the rain that's arrived in Yorkshire with this runner in mind. All four of the five-year-old's wins have come on either soft or good to soft ground, as did his three best performances on Racing Post Ratings. He disappointed last time but is competitively handicapped and one who could go well at a big price.
A few of the runners here look quite versatile with the ground but conditions look to be spot on for Danyah. The Owen Burrows-trained runner has produced his best runs on quick ground this season, but that is more a reflection on the vast improvement he has made from last year. Interestingly, his first two races came on soft ground including a winning debut, while Pat Dobbs reported the horse to have "loved" ground on the slow side of good when winning at Haydock last season.
ITV Racing tips: one key runner from each of the seven races on ITV
Saturday's Classic favourite may be the one to benefit most from the rain as he comes here off the back of a mesmerising Group 1 win on going described as very soft. The son of Frankel is out of a mare who handled plenty of cut, while he has also proved his class on good ground when landing the Dante and Irish Derby. Conditions are somewhere in between what Hurricane Lane experienced in his two top-level wins, so he looks perfectly primed for the hat-trick.
Teston
Vermantia Handicap (5.10)
This runner is the rank outsider in the betting but it is easy enough to make a compelling case for him with form figures on 15112 on good to soft ground. His career-best performance was a six-length win over today's course and distance, on this ground and off a 1lb higher mark in a similar handicap last June. He looks massively overpriced on that form.
