Rich Legacy edges May Hill thriller and could head to Chantilly

The May Hill Stakes was, in the pre-race words of Ralph Beckett, "a virtual re-run of the Prestige Stakes". Over the straight mile at Doncaster, rather than Goodwood's twisting-and-dropping 7f, the result was turned on its head.

Rich Legacy and Grecian Light were fourth and seventh of seven respectively at Goodwood but came first and second at Doncaster on Thursday, fighting out a thrilling finish in which the advantage swung to and fro more than once.

Winning trainer Beckett said afterwards: "It didn't work at Goodwood, it was probably asking too much of her after just one start. She was much better settled today, much more professional."
