Williams hoping McEvoy's super spring form continues for Almandin
Charlie Duckworth, assistant to Chris Waller, trainer of Who Shot Thebarman and Grand Marshal
The draws aren't ideal but over two miles they have plenty of time to sort themselves out. It's great to have Who Shot Thebarman coming back for a third Melbourne Cup. Both are in great form since their start last Saturday and it would mean an awful lot to the team if either could win for us.
David Hayes, co-trainer of Almoonqith
I'm happy with the outside draw in 19. We got supposedly better draws last year and they're still trying to get out, so I'm pleased with what we got.
Nick Williams, co-owner of Gallante, Almandin and Assign
You can put a line through Gallante's last run, he had no luck. He's improved since he won the Sydney Cup and won't mind a firmer track. Almandin is ready to race and we've got the in-form jockey of the carnival in Kerrin McEvoy, who knows how to win these big races. The horse is well-weighted and his form is outstanding. We think he has a terrific chance. I think the wide gate will suit Assign. He'll stride forward and will keep going. He's a real stayer and we couldn't be happier with him.
