McEvoy family revels in second Cup success 16 years in the making

If Kerrin McEvoy felt like a king as he crossed the line victorious aboard Almandin on Tuesday, it was nothing compared to what his son Jake was feeling as he watched on from his classroom.

As McEvoy's wife Kathy, heavily pregnant with the couple's fourth child, dropped Jake off at school on Tuesday morning, the six-year-old asked: "Do you reckon any of the other kids' dads are riding in the Melbourne Cup?"

The answer, of course, was no and Jake was later able to revel in the fact his dad had just won his country's most famous race, something that made the win extra special for McEvoy.
