Alice Springs could be bound for a Breeders' Cup atone mission after producing a devastating turn of foot to destroy some high-class Matron Stakes opposition and get Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore off the mark on Irish Champions Weekend.

With US Army Ranger turned over earlier and various degrees of woe endured by team Ballydoyle in the St Leger, O'Brien was due a change of luck. It came courtesy of one of his busiest fillies in a Group 1 that he has had less success in than any other domestic top-level event.

Alice Springs, having her seventh start of the season, came from last to first courtesy of a blistering change of gears in the straight.
