Candy confident that Limato's stamina will hold up

As an example of the challenge facing Henry Candy's Limato, the fact he has yet to win over a mile while no less than eight of his rivals are Group or Grade 1 winners over the distance is a pretty good place to start.

Add to that, it is a first ever Breeders' Cup runner for both Candy and his rider, Harry Bentley.

Yet connections are confident their horse will get the trip over the tight-turning turf course – he was far from disgraced when fourth in the Lockinge – and believe he has continued to improve following a career-best performance in the Prix de la Foret last time.

"He's the only one who's never won over a mile – it would be a good time to start!" said Candy. "We decided we'd try a mile, it's some place to go for an experiment but we think it will probably work.

"The horse has been having a wonderful time, all he's done is eat and eat and eat. He's in the right frame of mind.

"He's schooled through the gate as I thought it was worth introducing him to the bell, and Harry said it's the quickest he's ever jumped – he almost fell off the back.

"I think the pace will help him and, by the time they get to the first bend, they will probably be fairly strung out."

Candy added: "The filly that beat Tepin, Photo Call, is probably going to go on again. So I think that will suit, I just wouldn't want him to be on the outside of something that doesn't turn, but that's just in the lap of the gods.

"He'll jump quick, I'd imagine, and then he can hopefully have a fair few options about what position to take."
