We've sent our deputy Ireland editor David Jennings to Britain to explore the British jumps scene for a four-part series across Cheltenham's November meeting. In part three, he comes face to face with Paul Nicholls


There is a bonfire blazing in Paul Nicholls' eyes. You know the way Jamie Oliver talks about food as he's marinating a turkey for Christmas or David Attenborough's husky tones as zebras battle for a bite to eat in the savanna. Well, the 12-time champion trainer possesses a similar sort of passion for the sport he has devoted his life to since joining Josh Gifford as a conditional in 1982.

The questions come thick and fast, some tricky ones too given Ireland are bossing the big races nowadays, but he answers them the way Master Minded attacked the Railway fences in the 2008 Tingle Creek; once one has gone, he can't wait for the next one.
