Future festival winners? James Norris provides his verdict on the Champion Bumper in the latest of our Cheltenham series.
Despite Willie Mullins' immense success in almost every division, the Champion Bumper may be the festival race with which he is most closely associated. In Appreciate It he had a worthy and well-backed favourite who looked primed to become his tenth winner.
However, as we have seen in recent years with the likes of Champagne Fever (16-1), Briar Hill (25-1) and Relegate (25-1), his first string is not always the one who delivers. Once again, the less fancied stablemate Ferny Hollow came through to take the honours at 11-1, with Appreciate It losing little in defeat.
