Resurgent Taaffe likely to reap rewards with Nanny Stone
Nanny Stone
Trainer: Tom Taaffe
2nd, 2m2f maiden hurdle, Wexford, November 22
In a recent interview on At The Races, Tom Taaffe revealed that he had a good team for the winter – the best recent evidence of that coming from the winning performance of Rogue Trader at Punchestown who put himself forward as potentially a contender for the big staying handicap chases over the winter.
This mare is not too bad either. She caught the eye when running well in a Galway maiden hurdle last month and stepped up on that at Wexford when again looking a little bit short of pace, but staying on really well and pulling well clear of the remainder of the field in chasing home odds-on favourite, Sutton Manor.
She has an interesting pedigree – a daughter of Flemensfirth out of a half-sister to the great Denman – and looks a filly of considerable promise that's capable of winning an ordinary maiden hurdle.
Baffin Bay
Keith Clarke
9th, 7f two-year-old fillies auction maiden, Dundalk, November 25
A once-raced filly by Peintre Celebre, she made quite an eyecatching debut in a competitive Dundalk maiden and may well be capable of winning a race or two in due course.
