Lack of depth in US ranks - but it could be a very different picture next year

The Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings do not make for positive viewing for fans of US racing.

Of the 14 horses who make up the top ten and ties just four are trained in the US and one of those, Flightline, only burst on to the scene at the last minute, winning the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita on December 26.

Knicks Go does head the rankings, deservedly so after a fine season capped by an impressive win in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
