Fabulous views, good racing and lots of fun: it's the Brighton festival

Josh Moore is the only member of the famous family who has never ridden at Brighton, but he was born and brought up in the town and so was happy to step in when the racecourse was looking for a local jockey to promote next week's Marathonbet Festival of Racing with a unique photoshoot in front of the town's historic pier on Wednesday.

Moore, who rode Flat winners as far afield as Chester and Newmarket as an amateur before embarking on a successful career as a professional over jumps, said: "They wanted a Flat jockey and Hector [Crouch] was going to do it but he was on Altaayil in the first at Goodwood, where he was unlucky to run into one when second to Lil Rockerfeller, so I stepped in."

Of his siblings, he said: "Ryan's had loads of winners at Brighton obviously and Hayley's had a few too. Jamie's ridden there as well but I missed out, although I've ridden loads of work there."

He continued: "Brighton has been a big part of all of our lives and Dad [trainer Gary] is going to have quite a few runners at the festival, including last week's Sandown winner Lord Clenaghcastle, who is in great form and we hope can win the Bombadier Brighton Mile for the second year running, but that's not the racehorse in the photos with me today.

"That's one called Ididitforyoooo, who was placed a couple of times for Brian Meehan and is now trained along the road from Brighton by Richard Rowe."

The three-day meeting begins on Wednesday and Hayley Moore said: "It’s probably the best three days you could possibly get when it comes to racing at Brighton. You're going to get some good quality horses in action at this historic meeting. My grandad used to have horses racing there and now my dad runs horses regularly so it’s really exciting.

"Ladies' day on Thursday is one of my highlights as you get to see the true culture of Brighton and it’s fantastic to see everyone dressed up. In true Brighton style you get to see all sorts of people taking part and it makes you proud to be from Brighton."

It might not be Royal Ascot, and when chief executive Paul Ellison talks about the vast quantities of bubbly that will be consumed it's prosecco rather than champagne, but for those who attend it's just as much fun.

Ellison said: "The Marathonbet Festival of Racing is an event like no other, that much is for sure. We like to do things a little differently at Brighton, we’re eccentric and we’re all for equality and having a good time.

"From the quirky outfits on show to the 1,500 bottles of prosecco consumed over the three days, we have it all and we’re always thinking outside the box.

"This photoshoot was an excellent opportunity to showcase what we have to offer in a week’s time; fabulous views, great horses and lots of fun. It's the luxury event of the summer in the south."
