'Everything's gone well' - O'Brien confirms Kyprios for a Goodwood Cup epic
Glorious Goodwood is set to kick off with a blockbuster clash on Tuesday after Aidan O'Brien confirmed Gold Cup winner Kyprios for a spectacular Goodwood Cup showdown against staying giants Stradivarius and Trueshan.
A total of nine possible runners were left in contention for the Al Shaqab-backed Group 1 at Wednesday's confirmation stage, with Ladbrokes making Kyprios 5-4 favourite for the stellar clash ahead of Stradivarius – a four-time winner of the Goodwood Cup between 2017 and 2020 – at 6-4 and last year's winner Trueshan at 5-1.
Kyprios's Goodwood preparations have gone smoothly since he was last seen plundering the Gold Cup at Ascot with a tremendous finishing effort. Just a length and a quarter separated the improving four-year-old and third-placed Stradivarius on that occasion.
