Enable: how decades of patience produced the perfect storm of a racehorse
Following the news of the passing of legendary owner-breeder Khalid Abdullah, we chart the rise of Enable before her first bid at a third Arc in an article first published in October 2018
Were a Juddmonte Farms filly to be of a nervous disposition, she'd do well not to dwell too long on the roll of honour that accompanies the 41-year history of Prince Khalid Abdullah's global breeding empire. A short stroll through the Hall of Fame would be enough to engender humility at the very least, with an inferiority complex a distinct possibility.
There's no sign, however, that Enable has ever been overawed by the weight of expectation on her handsome brown shoulders – and why should she be? True enough, the litany of Group 1-winning homebreds is an awesome one, from the 1988 Sussex Stakes and QEII hero Warning to the mighty Frankel and Kingman, now exercising their potency at Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket, not forgetting fillies of the calibre of Special Duty, Banks Hill and Wince. But then Enable herself has the same blue blood coursing through her veins and has never looked anything other than a suitable heir to a great tradition.
