Doncaster proposes plan to have spectators for each day of St Leger meeting

Doncaster has offered to stage a trial of racing with spectators at the four-day St Leger meeting next month claiming that "if nobody does it, we're going to be a long, long time without crowds" in Britain.

The Yorkshire course is eager to put its case in the wake of Goodwood's trial admission of racegoers last Saturday being cancelled on the eve of racing, when the government scrapped a planned easing of Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.

Although the government has yet to release a new timescale for test events to take place, Doncaster has visions of allowing an increased number in each day, culminating with 6,000 or 7,000 being present for the season's final Classic on September 12.
