It is going to be hard for Henry de Bromhead to resist having a crack at the Ladbrokes Trophy with Eklat De Rire, especially since he is the new favourite with a few firms having been allocated 11st 3lb for the Newbury showpiece.
De Bromhead mentioned the race in the immediate aftermath of his recent Wexford win, the same contest Minella Indo won last year, so it has obviously been on his mind for a while and he won't be too dismayed by a mark of 154 – 2lb higher than his Irish rating.
Everything about Eklat De Rire suggests a test of stamina and jumping will be right up his street, so Newbury could be tailor-made for him.
