Daryl Jacob out for rest of the year after breaking his hand in Musselburgh fall

Jump jockey Daryl Jacob is set to be out of action for the rest of the year after breaking a hand in a fall at Musselburgh on Monday.

The rider has a retainer with Simon Munir and Isaac Souede and misses the mount on their Call Me Lord in Saturday's Unibet International Hurdle at Cheltenham, where the owners also have ex-French juvenile Tombee Du Ciel in the Triumph Hurdle Trial.

Jacob suffered the injury when the pair's Guena Des Mottes fell in a juvenile hurdle at the Scottish track and said: "It's broken and I don't know how long I'll be out for. I've got to get it assessed at Oaksey House, they've been very good to me."

Jacob, who won the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon on Top Notch the day before his fall, said: "It's not ideal – you don't want it at any time but this time of the year is a double whammy.

"You've got to stay positive and Simon and Isaac have been very good. I'm going to keep going and looking at the horses and checking them. It's frustrating but that's jump racing and it could be worse."

Jacob has also won Graded races on Fusil Raffles and Janika this season and is nearly halfway toward matching last term's tally of 58 winners in Britain.

He is one of seven jockeys appealing against the ten-day bans they were handed for ignoring a flag signal to stop during the London National at Sandown last Saturday.
