If you thought you were clever in picking out Frodon or A Plus Tard to win the big Christmas chases at Kempton and Leopardstown then how smart was Waynespink7 to have included both in their Tote Ten To Follow team when the competition opened a month before those races.

The successes take Waynespink7 to the top of the leaderboard with 341.08 points and the two chasing stars to the head of the list of leading horses. With other Christmas winners Concertista and Monkfish in the squad too, Waynespink7 has opened up a handy lead over the chasing pack, led by A22 on 329.38 points.

Frodon was selected by just three per cent of stables and earned 25 points for a Grade 1 win and a further 25 points as the King George is a bonus race. With a £24.50 return to a £1 each-way bet on the Tote, that makes a total of 74.50 Ten To Follow points. A Plus Tard landed 59.4 points for 2,013 stables in the Savills Chase.

Willie Mullins, inevitably, supplied the other names to join the top ten leading horses in Chacun Pour Soi, Franco De Port and Limerick Grade 1 scorer Colreevy.

Among the most popular Mullins scorers over the period was Monkfish in the Neville Hotels Novice Chase. He is the 17th most selected horse in the game, representing 6,231 stables, and victory at Leopardstown earned followers 27.32 points.

On the same card another Grade 1 success went to Sharjah, who took the Matheson Hurdle, earning 33.1 points – the biggest haul of all Mullins’ runners – for 859 Ten to Follow stables.

The most anticipated runner of all came on New Year’s Day, as dual Gold Cup winner Al Boum Photo returned at Tramore to earn 3,332 stables 17.12 points.

At Newbury, Paul Nicholls dished out handsome praise to Challow Hurdle winner Bravemansgame, making comparisons with the mighty Denman.

The win brought 29.7 points to 39 stables that had earmarked a horse who had won only an Exeter maiden hurdle when the game started. He could be an interesting pre-Cheltenham transfer window candidate.

The next bonus race is the rescheduled Welsh National on Saturday.
