BHA insists it is pushing racing's recovery plan after Gosden call for action

The BHA has defended the progress made by racing's recovery plan, saying chair Annamarie Phelps and chief executive Nick Rust recently met the sports minister to discuss racing's finances.

John Gosden, who last month hosted a brunch between trainers and home secretary Priti Patel, warned at the weekend that action was needed quickly to secure a sustainable financial footing for the industry, centred on reform of the levy to capture more income.

The champion trainer said inaction could result in a drain of talent and set the sport back 50 years, warning: "At the moment there hasn't been enough movement on it, which is why we're literally trying to do something ourselves."
