There is no good time for any organisation to go through the upheaval caused by the resignation of a chief executive in such controversial circumstances as the Jockey Club is going through now.

For it to happen when the biggest commercial group in the sport is facing a £75 million black hole in its revenues caused by the Covid-19 pandemic adds to the air of crisis surrounding the Jockey Club.

Delia Bushell's predecessor as chief executive Simon Bazalgette has said his old employer needs to draw a line under the affair as quickly as possible – but that looks easier said than done given the questions still hanging over the case.
