SHADOW STORM, winner of the Scurry Gold Cup at Dunstall Park on his last competitive start in October, advertised his wellbeing with a fastest-of-the-session 17.67sec (going normal) workout over Nottingham’s 305m course on Monday night.

Richard Rees’s star two-bender was one of several Arc National Sprint hopefuls put through their paces at the Colwick Park circuit before racing with the popular Category Two competition due to close to entries on Friday and start next Monday.

Among others engaged at the session were Chloe Hardy’s long-absent defending champion Niosfearrnabolt (18.35sec), Kim Billingham-Hine’s recent Nottingham 255m track-record-breaker Newinn Bachelor (17.81sec) and his Romford Guys & Dolls-winning kennelmate Newinn Souly (17.79sec), while Tom Heilbron’s Bower Sheeran also went well in 17.74sec.

Unfortunately, the rain-hit meeting which followed was abandoned after eight races due to safety fears, which meant that both the feature Arc Sprint Trophy final and one of the scheduled trial stakes over the 305m trip were scrapped.

An earlier trial stake on the card saw an impressive win for Mark Wallis’s top-flight sprinter Ballinakill Liam, who powered home in 17.64sec, while the top 480m contest went the way of Esther Driver’s leading local No Better Feelin in 28.60sec.
