Soppitt’s Buddy back on track

BALLYMAC BUDDY, who suffered a rough ride when eliminated from the heats of Monmore’s Ladbrokes Puppy Derby, enjoyed a 450m workout at Sunderland on Friday night.

Ted Soppitt’s talented youngster has not enjoyed the best of fortune in major competitions having been knocked over when sent off favourite for last month’s Northern Puppy Derby final at Newcastle, but moved well on his first look at the Wearside circuit, stopping the clock in 27.47sec (-20) in a solo spin.

Feature race on Friday’s card was the £500 final of the Arc Standard over 450m and this went the way of favourite Parkview Sprite for Star Pelaw trainer Glenn Foot.

Quickly taking charge, the Durham raider led home Soppitt’s Sunnyside Gurkha by four and a quarter lengths in 27.22sec (normal) to take his impressive record at the track to five wins from eight starts.
