Soppitt and Heilbron double up

NEWCASTLE trainers Ted Soppitt and Tom Heilbron traded victories at Sunderland on Friday night as the pair took one heat apiece of the two competitions which kicked off at the Wearside track, writes Phil Donaldson.
Soppitt was first to strike as his Sunnyside Gurkha took charge early in heat one of the 450m Arc Standard to beat Heilbron’s Madabout Peck by two lengths in 26.97sec (+10), before Heilbron sent out Deerjet Rocket to beat his own odds-on kennelmate Unanimous Leon a short head in heat two in an identical time for the trip.
Heilbron then struck with Toddys Wolf in the first heat of the Arc Dash over 261m as he picked off Soppott’s Sunnyside Ted by three-parts in 15.35sec.
Durham-based Soppitt returned the favour in the second of the sprint qualifiers as his odds-on Sunnyside Jayden proved too slick for Heilbron’s Lightfoot Jamie, making all to win by two lengths in 15.42sec.
The £500 finals of both Category Three competitions will feature on next Friday’s card.
