Calverts hoping unbeaten Soapy can clean up again

SOAPY SUDS, based in the north east at the kennels of trainer Debbie Calvert, is now a shade of odds-on with sponsors bet365 to complete an unbeaten run through Oxford’s English Puppy Oaks.
The strapping daughter of Ballymac Bolger-Change Me has won all three of her career starts after arriving unraced from Ireland, and Calvert’s son Craig is hopeful she can keep that run going in Sunday’s £10,000 Category One final.
He said: “She was recommended by connections in Ireland and when breeder Michael Murphy sent us a video of an unofficial trial at Cork we thought she looked a nice prospect.
“She runs for our CP Racing syndicate, headed by Paul Heron, and the plan was to target this event, which was to be at Towcester, as we thought the 500m would suit her.
“When it was switched to Oxford we stuck with the plan, and while she is having to work hard as she doesn’t have the early pace of some of the bitches she’s running against, she has done everything she’s had to and is looking strong.”
Having drawn trap one for the third time running, Soapy Suds has been put in the 5-6 favourite for the 450m final ahead of Romford Puppy Cup queen Scooby Diamond (5-2), who she picked up in the semi.
“She moved off from one in the heats, but kept straighter on Sunday,” Calvert said. “She’s nearly 33 kilos, and can stand her ground, but it’s a good final and no gimme.
“But she’s in great shape and we’re looking forward to the final and also going for more puppy events next year.”
