ZENITH BOOM, Jimmy Fenwick’s exciting new stayer, warmed up for next month’s Winter Festival at Shelbourne Park with a sizzling trial at his Newcastle base on Thursday night.

Given a solo over the rarely used 706m course, Zenith Boom stopped the clock at 42.68sec (going normal), 11 spots inside the 42.79sec track record set in 2017 by Angela Harrison’s former local ace Shellam Delano.

That was a second workout over the trip for the Birol Nadir-owned Zenith Boom, whose first six-bend race for Fenwick last month saw him post 41.34sec (+60) over Nottingham’s 680m trip – the third-fastest seen at the Colwick Park track.

Fenwick also won one of two opens on Thursday’s card as his recent intake Singalong Cherry (8-11f) struck late in the 480m bitches’ one-off in 28.88sec (+20).

Run of the night came from Tom Heilbron’s Glengar Phantom in the earlier 480m open as the 11-8 favourite quickly took charge to beat a decent field in a fastest-of-the-night 28.26sec (+20).

At Hove, Patrick Janssens’ 2025 Derby champion Droopys Plunge was quickest of the Gold Collar contenders put through their paces in pre-racing trials as he clocked a swift 29.11sec (-10) for the 500m competition course.
