SCOOBY THE LADY shades outright favouritism for this year’s £20,000 Premier Greyhound Racing Kent Derby ahead of Saturday’s star-studded first round at Central Park.

The Richard Rees-trained star broke the 491m track record when landing the Arc Kent Plate earlier this year and is 4-1 to add another prize to her name at the Sittingbourne circuit.

This year’s entry includes many big-race winners and another recent track record breaker is Maxine Locke’s Puppy Classic winner Annadown Warrior, who sits alongside reigning Greyhound of the Year Proper Heiress in the market at 9-2.

Paul Young’s Select Stakes champion Underground Gold is respected at 11-2 after a couple of smart trials over course and distance.

Patrick Janssens has won the Category One title three times before and his reigning champion Romeo Tomcat is 12-1 to successfully defend his crown.

Betting
PGR Kent Derby (general unless stated):

Steel City tilt for Fenwick star Woltemade

WOLTEMADE, Jimmy Fenwick’s multiple big-race winner, is Sheffield-bound for a tilt at the BetGoodwin Steel City Cup, writes Phil Donaldson.

The Birmingham Cup hero heads a field of 32 for the 500m Category One which kicks off with six heats on Sunday afternoon.

The track’s deputy racing manager Matt Stagg said: “Given all that’s going on elsewhere, 32 is not that bad, and it’s fantastic to have Woltemade in there.

“Magical Keith and Jacktavern Turbo have been flying of late and are other strong entries, as is Sean Parker’s Annadown Shadow.”
