Middle Park double for half-brothers as Wise Approach follows Perfect Power's example

Wise Approach's victory in the Tattersalls Middle Park Stakes was completing a remarkable achievement for his dam Sagely, who has now bred two winners of the same Group 1 race within four years.
Back in 2021 it was the turn of his Ardad half-brother Perfect Power, who had already claimed major honours in the Norfolk Stakes and Prix Morny before going on to land the Commonwealth Cup as a three-year-old. The Royal Ascot race would be a logical target for his sibling, who was also second in the Norfolk Stakes and third in the Morny.
The exploits of Perfect Power, whose first yearlings are coming through the ring this sales season from his stint at Darley's Dalham Hall Stud, would go a long way to explain why Godolphin went to 1,000,000gns to secure the son of Mehmas from his breeder Tally-Ho Stud at Book 1 of last year's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
This result will not hinder the prospects of Wise Approach's younger full-sister, who will be offered as lot 393 at the same auction this time around. Sagely was an inspired purchase by the O'Callaghan family's farm when bought for 42,000gns at the end of her racing career with Ed Dunlop as she is the dam of one other runner to date, the Chesham Stakes third and smart sprint handicapper Golden Mind. Her lineage traces back to the Arc winner Sagamix and Newsells Park Stud's fabled broodmare Shastye.
"He's bred to be fast, he is fast and he's got a great gear change," said jockey William Buick, who was nearly pitched out of the saddle at the start when Wise Approach appeared to stumble and angled him around the field before beating Wootton Bassett colt Brussels by three-quarters of a length.

"He's got a lot of quality, he's a beautiful-looking horse, strong two-year-old and plenty to look forward to next year with him, you'd imagine," the rider told ITV.
Earlier in the Cheveley Park, True Love had been a second winner in the race for No Nay Never, the sire of Alcohol Free in 2020. The well-built filly is an all-Coolmore product out of Alluringly, a daughter of Fastnet Rock who was third to Enable in the Oaks and is a great-grandaughter of Urban Sea.
Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum's blue hen Zomaradah looks to have bequeathed her owner-breeder yet another treasure in Bow Echo, a stylish winner of the Royal Lodge Stakes.
His Italian Oaks winner is most famously the dam of sire supreme Dubawi as well as black-type winners and producers Emirates Queen and Princess Nada.
Bow Echo is a great-grandson of Zomaradah and can claim to have Dubawi featuring on both sides of his pedigree as he is yet another emerging talent for this season's leading British and Irish sire Night Of Thunder, himself a Classic winner by Dubawi.
The unbeaten colt is the second foal and the first to have raced from Aristocratic Lady, who won three in a row at six furlongs for Simon and Ed Crisford in 2020. His dam produced a yearling colt by Starspangledbanner.
