Camelot's stallion appeal underlined by ability to spark with faster families
Classic winner is considered a 'quick Montjeu'

Camelot's appeal as a stallion prospect undoubtedly struck a chord on many levels to breeders when he retired to stand at Coolmore in 2014. Here was a three-time Classic winner who possessed the early ability so craved by the commercial market to strike in the Racing Post Trophy at two. He was also out of a smart mare by Kingmambo and had the looks to command 525,000gns as a yearling.
Perhaps more importantly, however, he was a 'quick Montjeu'. For all Montjeu's brilliance as a sire, typically they thrive off a patient campaign over middle-distances and beyond. Yet here was one in possession of enough pace to win the 2,000 Guineas on his first start at three, a victory that was set up that agonisingly close sweep of the Triple Crown.
Montjeu has had plenty of opportunity to exert an influence on the breed but while the likes of Motivator, Authorized and Hurricane Run each enjoyed their moments in the sun, he has gone on to play a superior role in the National Hunt thoroughbred, the sphere in which Authorized, Montmartre, Fame And Glory and Scorpion have tasted high-profile success.
