First runner a winner for dual Group 1 winner Saxon Warrior
Ser Sed gets the 2,000 Guineas winner's stud career off to the perfect start
Saxon Warrior, the 2,000 Guineas and Racing Post Trophy winner, has made the ideal start to his stud career with his first runner in France proving to be a winner.
Coolmore's first season sire by Deep Impact had his first runner, Ser Sed, in a maiden at Le Lion d'Angers on Sunday and the Joel Boisnard-trained colt showed plenty of speed to win over five-and-a-half furlongs.
The precocity and pace required to win this early in the season would not be immediately apparent looking at Ser Sed's pedigree. Bred by Gestut Ammerland, he is from one of their most outstanding middle-distance families.
Ser Sed's pedigree features Galileo close up as he is inbred 3x3 to the prepotent sire. He is the first foal out of Lady Livonia, an unraced Frankel full-sister to Group 3 winner and Prix de l'Opera third Lady Frankel and a half-sister to the dual Classic winner and leading sire Lope De Vega. Lady Livonia is also a half-sister to the Group 3 winner Bal De La Rose who is the dam of German Group 1 winner Danceteria.
He was offered for sale by Ammerland at the Arqana October Yearling Sale and made €15,000 to FAL Stud. The February-foaled colt runs in the colours of Jean-Claude Seroul and Azzedine Sedrati.
Saxon Warrior was a top-class performer, unbeaten at two when winning the Group 2 Beresford Stakes before his Doncaster triumph. At three, he was placed in the Irish Champion Stakes, Eclipse and Irish Derby after his Classic success.
His pedigree combines the two most influential sires of the past 15 years in Deep Impact and Galileo. Saxon Warrior is out of Galileo's Moyglare Stud Stakes-winning daughter Misty For Me who is a full-sister to Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes winner and Group 1-placed Promise To Be True.
Second dam Sumora won the Listed St Hugh's Stakes and is a Danehill three-parts sister to Oaks and Preis der Diana winner Dancing Rain. It is also the family of Derby, Irish Champion Stakes and Dewhurst winner Dr Devious.
Saxon Warrior has 112 juveniles registered and he stands at Coolmore for a fee €20,000 this season.
