Espoir De Guye
3.00 Ascot
Buy at 13 on the index

Big handicaps at Ascot tend to draw the same horses time and again. There is at least one notable case in point here in Bennys King. Capeland and Espoir De Guye could also qualify, with the latter particularly interesting in this 2m5f heat.

Espoir De Guye is two from three at the course, with his defeat coming in the Silver Cup last time. That race was over 3m, his first foray over that far, and the understandably cautious ride Charlie Deutsch gave him turned out not to be the order of the day in a race nicked off the front by Mister Malarky.

Before that, Espoir De Guye had won Class 2 events here over 2m3f (heavy) and 2m5f (soft), the latter in November. He shaped as though still in form in the Silver Cup and may well be improving still, considering he has run only six times over fences.

If he is to improve again, he has the conditions to do so and represents a rock-solid buy on the index.

He will need to finish in the first three to secure a profit, but he should not be much further down on anyone's shortlist.

3.00 Ascot
Sporting (50-30-20-10): 13-16 Good Boy Bobby, 12-15 Bennys King, 10-13 Dashel Drasher, Espoir De Guye, 9-12 Windsor Avenue, 8-11 Capeland, 6-8 Jerrysback, 5-7 Young Wolf, Domaine De L'Isle, Acting Lass, 4-6 Jonniesofa, 2-4 Colorado Doc, Louis' Vac Pouch, 1-3 Touch Kick

Match bet: Bennys King/Espoir De Guye 0.5-2.0
