Gamble on Dr Ranj Singh to go may be misplaced

Punters have reportedly piled on Dr Ranj Singh to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing this week, but the gamble could well come unstuck.

Apart from throwing in a stinker in week three the doc has been competent and charismatic and he tackles the American Smooth.

It's a dance that statistically garners decent scores, and set to the Beach Boys' upbeat classic Wouldn't It Be Nice, Dr Ranj could be a real crowd-pleaser.

The betting is quite open, and with good reason. Kate Silverton, perhaps the weakest dancer remaining in the line-up, could find the Viennese Waltz suits her.

The public defied the will of the tabloids last week by not voting the caddish Seann Walsh into the bottom two, and there seems little reason for them to do so this time.

Charles Venn has won through the dance-off for the last two weeks and makes some appeal at 5-1 to be next out. However, he is a strong enough dancer to get the nod from the judges over some possible bottom-two opponents.

At the prices, Lauren Steadman looks perhaps the best-value elimination bet.

The paralympic triathlete has been consistently near the bottom of the judges' scores and her Contemporary Dance - part of the newly-introduced Couples' Choice - is not guaranteed to be a hit with the audience.

Recommendation
Lauren Steadman to be eliminated
1pt 6-1 general
