Prime Minister Theresa May backed to win confidence vote
Boris Johnson favourite to be next Conservative leader
Prime Minister Theresa May is a strong 1-8 favourite with Betfred to win a vote of confidence on Wednesday evening after a challenge was made to her leadership of the Conservative party.
May has been lacking support from colleagues on her Brexit deal but has at least found some friends in the betting community. The market opened up with the PM 4-7 to win the vote but she was backed to 1-3 and then 1-8 to stave off the bid to oust her from power.
It's 11-2 with bet365 that May loses the confidence vote while in the betting on next Conservative leader Boris Johnson leads the way at 9-2 in a wide-open market.
Dominic Raab is 6-1, the same price as Sajid Javid, although Michael Gove has drifted to 8-1.
The vote will take place between 6pm and 8pm on Wednesday and the result will be announced at around 9pm. May remains in bullish mood, declaring outside 10 Downing Street: "I will contest that vote with everything I have got."
A second referendum on Brexit continues to shorten. Betfair and Paddy Power now offer 10-11 about the country having another vote on whether to remain in the European Union and the same price for no second referendum.
