Foreign secretary Liz Truss is 8-13 with Hills to become the next Prime Minister with Conservative Party members set to decide whether she or Rishi Sunak gets the keys to 10 Downing Street.

The two candidates have made it through to the final vote, which will be decided by the 200,000-strong party membership with a result expected to be announced on September 5.

A final vote among Conservative MPs on Wednesday saw Sunak receive the support of 137 of his colleagues while Truss was backed by 113 and a third candidate, trade minister Penny Mourdant, was eliminated after receiving 105 votes.

But despite receiving the greatest number of votes from his Westminster colleagues, former chancellor Sunak is 6-4 with BoyleSports to replace Boris Johnson, who stood for his final prime minister's questions on Wednesday.

Reports suggest Sunak's reluctance to cut taxes will not sit well with the party faithful and polling organisation YouGov said that they believe Truss heads into the showdown 20-points ahead in their survey.

There will be no rush for either candidate to call for a general election, the latest available date for which is January 2025.

However, the Conservatives are a general 4-5 to win the most number of seats, with Labour 11-10 with Betfred, and bookmakers go 8-11 that no party will enjoy an overall majority.
