Friday's quarter-final matches

John Higgins is looking to successful defend his Players Championship crown but he could come under attack against Jimmy Robertson.

There's no doubt that the Scot is still a superb performer and he had few problems when rattling in three centuries to beat Hossein Vafaei 6-3 in the opening round. However, price is key and quotes of 1-4 about a victory for the Wizard of Wishaw make little appeal.

Robertson hammered Luca Brecel 6-1 in the first-round and the Bexhill potter is a dangerous opponent when in confident mood.

J-Rob should be beaming after his impressive win over the Belgian and there is no doubt that he has the break-building talents to get frames on the board.

There has been plenty to like about Robertson's play this season and a run to the quarter-final of the World Grand Prix and semi-final of the British Open have been a welcome return to form for the Bexhill cueman.

Robertson has always given the impression that he is better than the sum of his results, and this contest should set-up nicely, with all the expectation on Higgins.

J-Rob can be backed at even-money getting a 2.5-frame start and that looks a worthwhile bet.
