Match preview

Wigan Warriors and Hull FC have been involved in some famous clashes over the years and their latest dust-up in the Betfred Super League on Thursday could be another cracker.

Wigan's Challenge Cup final win of 1985 is still regarded as one of the greatest Wembley finals with the Warriors running out 28-24 victors in a topsy-turvy contest, and recent meetings have been equally close.

It was 10-0 to Wigan at the end of last season when these two last squared up and the average winning margin over the last 16 meetings is just nine points.

Both have made decent starts to the campaign with Wigan winning five of their opening six league matches and Hull winning four times, while both made comfortable progress in the Betfred Challenge Cup last week.

Wigan are 4-11 to maintain their pursuit of league leaders St Helens and an away win is 12-5 but Hull have enjoyed little success at the DW Stadium.

The Black & Whites have won on just two of their last seven visits but rarely have they been blown away and backing the visitors to be edged out looks the best bet.

Just five of the previous 11 meetings have featured more than 30 points and another close encounter is expected despite the return of Wigan full-back Bevan French after a long layoff with a hamstring injury.

French is 9-1 to score the first try but may take time to get going. Liam Farrell, however, is well up to speed having bagged five tries in six games for the Warriors from the back row, including a brace last time out.

At 16-1 he looks too tempting to continue his impressive tryscoring run.
