Bulldozing forward Luke Thompson was the surprise winner of the Harry Sunderland Trophy for his performance in last season's Betfred Super League Grand Final win over Salford but a couple of more obvious candidates should be considered to take home the award as man-of-the-match in the end-of-season showpiece this time.

Thompson went out on a high in his final Saints' game before heading down under to play in the NRL but the trophy could stay at the Totally Wicked Stadium in the possession of his former team-mate, Lachlan Coote.

Coote has been in fantastic form this season and turned in a man-of--the-match performance with two tries and eight goals in last week's semi-final win over Catalans Dragons.

Coote landed five goals in last year's final and could be the difference in what is likely to be a tight clash with Wigan, who will look to their own star full-back for inspiration.

Bevan French finished with 12 tries for the Warriors this season and Friday's Grand Final in Hull could be a straight shootout between the opposing number ones.

Points are often at a premium in the season decider so don't be surprised to see a drop-goal scored by either side at the Kcom Stadium.
