Match preview

Channel 4 probably couldn't have asked for a better game for their first free-to-air Betfred Super League offering last week as Warrington left it late to beat Leeds in a thriller.

So they will be hoping their next broadcast, between Hull and champions St Helens on Saturday, will follow suit.

Saints have been the pinnacle of Super League for three years now and on the evidence of their opening-round win over Catalans Dragons, the side they beat at Old Trafford in October, they won't be giving up their crown easily.

Hull are one of the sides who harbour ambitions of succeeding Saints as champions, although beating Wakefield in round one is an entirely different proposition to toppling the champs.

And it's not as if the Airlie Birds have much recent experience of doing that anyway. Saints have won the last 11 league and cup meetings between the sides with an average winning margin in that time of 21 points.

A handicap of 12 points should be within their reach but backing an away victory by 11 to 20 points could be the way to go at a bigger price.

Saturday's second televised clash sees Catalans welcome Wakefield to the south of France.

The Dragons, smarting from a hiding at St Helens in round one, are chalked up as 22-point favourites to see off Trinity, and given they have record seven straight league and cup wins over Wakey they will have their backers.

However, Wakefield's last four defeats in Super League were all by eight points or fewer and but for poor execution they would have probably beaten Hull in round one - they lost 12-16.
