Preview

Wigan narrowly preserved their 100 per cent start to the new Betfred Super League season with a 29-28 victory at Toulouse last week and the Warriors have remained in France for arguably their toughest test of the season so far on Saturday.

The Cherry & Whites enter the Dragons’ lair this weekend but are outsiders to make it five from five against last year’s Grand Final runners-up Catalans in Perpignan.

The Dragons made an inauspicious start to the new campaign, suffering a hammering at their Old Trafford conquerors St Helens. They have recovered with three victories on the trot but haven’t looked overly convincing.

Catalans made hard work of narrow wins over Wakefield and Leeds, who had only one win in nine matches between them prior to Wakey’s match with Toulouse on Friday, but last week’s victory at Warrington was much more like it.

The Dragons overcame a number of absences to record their first win at the Halliwell Jones in 11 years, but they are close to full-strength for the visit of the Warriors and receive the tentative vote in what should be an intriguing contest.

Huddersfield are another side to have made an encouraging start to the season, winning three of their four matches, with their attack particularly on song.

The Giants have plundered 114 points in their four outings which spells bad news for a Castleford defence who have been far from convincing near their own try-line.

The Tigers were tamed by Salford, Warrington and Hull Kingston Rovers in their first three outings, but finally got off the mark for the season with a seven-point win over a depleted Hull FC in round four.

However, Cas are conceding 28 points per game on average and that must be a concern against an in-form Giants attack.
