Match preview

Warrington Wolves are scoring tries for fun in the Betfred Super League and they could have plenty to howl about after their clash with struggling Salford Red Devils.

Wire have plundered 42 tries in their opening seven matches and that could spell trouble for a Salford side who are finding points desperately hard to come by.

The Red Devils have managed just 84 points in their opening seven fixtures - the worst tally in the competition - with 34 of those coming against bottom-of-the-table Leigh in round four.

Salford limited Wigan to just 17 points last week but St Helens (28), Castleford (28), Catalans (42) and Hull FC (35) have all posted hefty scores past Richard Marshall's men.

A squad packed full of quality should be performing much better and they have an excellent record in this fixture, winning the last five meetings, but their dodgy defence is unlikely to hold off the Wolves for long and an eight-point handicap looks well within reach for the visitors who can score from all over the pitch.

Outside back Toby King leads the way with seven tries but playmaker Gareth Widdop has bagged six and has started the season in fine form.

Widdop is often in the thick of the action and he looks a touch overpriced to cross the whitewash once again given his current influence on the side.

Superstar winger Greg Inglis has been ruled out for at least two months with a hamstring injury but Warrington should still be too strong for their beleaguered hosts.
