Tonga had to rely on a last-gasp try to see off Papua New Guinea in their Rugby League World Cup opener and they may not have things all their own way against Wales.

Underdogs have shown plenty of bite in the tournament so far with nine of 12 sides winning with the start on the handicap prior to Sunday's fixtures.

And the Dragons, who lost 18-12 to the Cook Islands in their first match, look the bet in receipt of a hefty 46-point start on Monday.

John Kear's men led 12-8 at half-time against The Kukis last week and will start this match full of confidence.

Tonga, on the other hand, struggled to hit their straps against PNG and have plenty to improve on.

It's 1-66 about a Tonga victory but the handicap looks a stretch, so backing the Dragons with the start looks the way to go.
