You have to go back to Brisbane Broncos in 1998 to find the last time an NRL side won back-to-back Grand Finals but Sydney Roosters are firm favourites to buck that trend against Canberra Raiders in 2019.

The Roosters, 21-6 victors over Melbourne Storm in last year's showpiece, are just 2-5 to retain their crown after finishing second in the regular season and conceding only two tries in playoff successes over South Sydney and Melbourne.

Trent Robinson's men are perhaps the best team in either hempishere at present, with an electric set of backs complemented by an uncompromising and dynamic forward unit.

In opposition at ANZ Stadium are a Canberra Raiders outfit playing in their first Grand Final since winning the competition 25 years ago.

Led by their core of England international forwards, the Green Machine will give as good as they get in the final which could be closer than the layers expect.

Canberra were superb in beating Melbourne in their own backyard in their first playoff outing and backed that up with a semi-final success over the Rabbitohs.

They got within four and six points in two regular-season matches with the Roosters this term and could be the bet with an eight-point start.
