Match preview

Three of the Betfred Super League's top four get the final round of regular-season fixtures under way on Friday night but the importance of the playoffs means there should be little alteration to the current standings.

Wigan will finish second no matter what the result of their televised clash with Catalans, but the Dragons could leapfrog Huddersfield into third should they beat the Warriors and the Giants lose to Wakefield in Friday's other contest.

However, Catalans coach Steve McNamara, clearly content with a home playoff tie next week, has rested almost all of his first-team squad for the trip to Wigan, naming 12 potential debutants in his travelling party.

Wigan are therefore as short as 1-150 to complete a perfect home campaign as they build towards a Grand Final tilt.

Huddersfield have gone in the opposite direction to Catalans, opting for a strong line-up as they seek to maintain continuity ahead of the post-season.

The Giants aren't particularly flash but they are extremely well-drilled and have realistic designs of an Old Trafford appearance having come within minutes of winning the Challenge Cup at Wembley earlier this season.

They are favourites to enter the playoffs on a winning note but Yorkshire rivals Wakefield will be keen to dent any confidence in the Giants' ranks.

A late-season surge has helped Trinity power away from relegation danger having been bottom of the table only a few weeks ago.

Wakefield beat champions St Helens on Monday, the latest in a line of decent scalps, and they look worth supporting on the handicap.

Watch out for Wakey winger Lewis Murphy in the tryscorer markets, too. The Trinity flyer dotted down four times against the Saints and has scored ten tries in his last five games.
