The reasons behind Warrington Wolves' miserable Betfred Super League campaign remain something of a mystery and there is unlikely to be greater clarity following their daunting trip to Wigan Warriors on Friday.

The Wolves are one of the biggest-spending sides in the competition but find themselves way off the pace in tenth.

Instead of gearing up for the playoffs, they are nervously looking over their shoulders at the two sides below them with just a four-point gap between them and bottom side Toulouse.

It's a remarkable situation Warrington find themselves in and it could be even worse by the end of this round of matches.

Wire have won just seven of their 21 league fixtures this season and take on a Wigan side scoring points for fun.

The Warriors put 46 past Hull KR last week and have plundered 146 in their last three home matches.

Winger Bevan French has been at the heart of that with 15 tries in July and it is hard to see how the Wolves can stop them despite their great recent record against Wigan.

Daryl Powell's men have won three of their last four meetings including their last two trips to the DW Stadium.

Wigan won 40-22 when they last met in round 11 and it is impossible to see anything other than a home win.

Odds of 1-3 about that outcome are swerved but the 20-21 about the home side covering an eight-point handicap looks a decent bet.

Huddersfield Giants are also strong on home soil, and, having won nine of their ten fixtures at their John Smith's Stadium base this season, should be backed to see off Hull FC on Friday.

The Giants were made to work hard for a 32-22 win over Warrington last Saturday and they could get a similar workout this week.

Hull arrested their recent slump by hammering Toulouse last Friday but this is a huge step up in class and preference is for the home side.

The last six meetings have featured winning margins of eight, eight, 14, seven, 12 and two and although FC have often had the better of it, Huddersfield look the stronger side at the moment and they look worth backing to win by one to 12 points.
