Fifth position holds some fond memories for the Leeds Rhinos.

In both 2011 and 2012, the Rhinos limped to fifth on the regular-season ladder before their golden generation drew on their big-game experience to become Betfred Super League champions.

There is no Kevin Sinfield, Jamie Peacock or Rob Burrow in the current Rhinos ranks but Richard Agar's men already have the Coral Challenge Cup safely on show in the Headingley trophy cabinet and, having ended the league campaign in fifth, they are 14-1 to do the double.

Standing in their way in Friday's elimination playoff are a Catalans Dragons side seeking Grand Final glory for the first time.

The Dragons, who finished fourth, would most likely be favourites if the game was taking place in the south of France but changes to the playoff format due to Covid-19 mean that Warrington is the scene for the winner-takes-all encounter.

Catalans were 34-6 victors when the sides met on September 30 but don't read too much into that. Leeds rested a whole host of their squad with a cup semi-final coming up days later.

And while the current squad may not be the club's golden generation, with the steady hand of Luke Gale on the tiller Leeds showed in the Challenge Cup that they know how to win when the pressure is on.
