Match previews

Catalans Dragons have fallen off the pace in the Betfred Super League and they could find themselves further adrift following the visit of title rivals St Helens on Saturday.

The Dragons have won just one of their last three to slip to fourth spot and this could be more of a one-sided affair than would have been expected a few weeks ago.

Saints are in full flow and it is hard to see anyone stopping them as they bid to land their fourth consecutive league title.

This is a repeat of last season's Grand Final in which St Helens emerged 12-10 winners but their April meeting in the Challenge Cup saw the champions run out 36-20 winners in the Dragons' den.

That made it four wins out of the last five meetings between these two and St Helens are odds-on to add another tick in the win column.

Saints have based this year's challenge on mean defence and they are the competition's most miserly side in 2022.

Kristian Woolf's men are shipping just over ten points per match and they haven't conceded more than 14 points in any of their last six league outings.

The Dragons have only a win over struggling Hull FC to show for their efforts in their last three fixtures and they could come up short against the Red Vee, who have won both meetings with Catalans this season. A two-point handicap looks easily overcome by the champions.

Hull FC's woes deepened in last week's miserable 4-0 defeat at Warrington and things may not improve at the MKM Stadium.

A game dubbed as one of the worst ever in Super League was settled by two Warrington penalties and Hull's lack of creativity in the absence of injured playmaker Jake O'Connor was plain to see at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The Black & Whites have managed zero, eight and 18 points in their last three fixtures and with the injuries piling up once more they could be vulnerable to a Leeds Rhinos side who are improving slightly each week under new coach Rohan Smith.

Leeds remain way off the top sides but have won on their last two visits to west Hull and could have the edge in this latest encounter.

Hull KR were handed a pasting at home to Huddersfield Giants last week and they may struggle to bounce back in the heat of Toulouse.

Rovers were thumped 38-10 by the Giants at their Craven Park base and their away form hasn't been much better this year.

KR have won just two of seven road trips in 2022 and face a French side who have been handicap winners on ten occasions this season.

Toulouse have won only two matches but have been competitive, particularly on home soil, where they have taken the scalps of leaders St Helens and Wakefield and pushed Wigan and KR mightily close in narrow losses.

Temperatures in the south of France are forecast to be around the 32C mark so this looks a good opportunity for them to turn the heat up on the Robins to land their third win of the season at a decent price.
