Bulldogs v Cowboys match preview

Last season's miserable NRL campaign came back to haunt the Canterbury Bulldogs and North Queensland Cowboys as both made losing starts to the new season.

The Bulldogs slumped to an 8-2 loss at Parramatta while the Cowboys were sent packing 28-21 at home to the Brisbane Broncos and another season of struggle looks likely for this beleaguered pair.

Canterbury will hope to improve on their 12th-place finish while anything better than 14th will be progress for the Cowboys who are more used to competing at the top of the standings.

There is plenty of time for these two to improve and they will be desperate to do so as soon as possible.

Bookmakers are banking on an away win, making the Cowboys 8-11 favourites while the Doggies are chalked up as 13-10 shots. Those prices look reasonable given home advantage is negated due with the game being played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The visitors would have been the pick to edge the contest anyway but things could be even easier for the Townsville outfit who look to possess more in attack and backing them at evens to cover a two-point handicap looks the way to go.

It was 16-9 to the Cowboys when these two last met at the end of last season and they could round up another victory.
