Castleford have yet to hit their straps under new boss Lee Radford, who takes on former club Hull in the Betfred Super League today still seeking his first win as Tigers head coach.

Radford guided to the Airlie Birds to back-to-back Challenge Cup successes in 2016 and 2017, but was sacked in March 2020 just minutes after presiding over a dismal home defeat to Warrington.

The new Cas coach has a tough act to follow at The Jungle in Daryl Powell, who took the Tigers to the Super League Grand Final and Challenge Cup final during his nine years at the helm.

And judged on the first three rounds, Radford will do well to emulate his predecessor. Cas have scored only 36 points in their three opening defeats and they need to click sooner rather than later if they are to make the playoffs again this season.

Hull, meanwhile, have made an indifferent start to the new campaign, squeezing past Wakefield in round one before being thumped by champions St Helens a week later.

However, they dished out a thrashing of their own last week, routing Salford 48-16, and that extra clinical edge could prove the different this afternoon.

Hull are asked to give up just two points on the handicap and that looks the best bet.

In today’s other match, Salford are 13-5 to bounce back from their Hull hiding at Huddersfield, but their recent record against the Giants is encouraging as they’ve won the pair’s last three meetings.
