Preview

There are a whole host of stars set to take centre stage at Old Trafford on Saturday and several look genuine contenders to land the man of the match award in the Betfred Super League Grand Final.

James Roby lifted the Harry Sunderland Trophy following St Helens' Grand Final win last season and if Saints are in the winner's enclosure again on Saturday then Roby will almost certainly have had a huge say in getting them there.

Roby has been there, seen it and got several t-shirts with 'champions' emblazoned across the front and the St Helens skipper looks decent value to take the honours for a third time, while prop forward Alex Walmsley is another who could make his mark in Manchester.

Walmsley has been in fantastic form in recent weeks and his bulldozing style has grabbed plenty of headlines and five tries for the champions this season.

He could drive Saints to victory and he also looks value to get over the whitewash first, but should Catalans do the business then look no further than Sam Tomkins or James Maloney to steal the limelight.

Tomkins arrives on a high having just been named Man of Steel for 2021, and although he missed the semi-final win over Hull KR through injury, it looks likely he will take to the Old Trafford turf on Saturday.

The full-back has been inspirational in taking the Dragons to the top of the table this year and team-mate Maloney has also played a huge part.

The 35-year-old half-back announced his retirement from the elite game recently but plans to continue playing at a lower grade in France next season.

Maloney's big-game experience will be crucial for the Dragons and the former Australia international and State of Origin star will be determined to go out on a high.

He has assisted nine tries this season and he could make life easy for Fouad Yaha who looks too big at 14-1 to get the first try of the match. Yaha has bagged 14 from the wing this season and is always a threat with the ball in hand.
