Henrik Stenson leads the way but Tiger is in the mix

Henrik Stenson shrugged off a missed cut at the Valspar Championship to claim the lead after round one of the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the super Swede is now a 7-2 shot to take the title.

The 2016 Open champion fired nine birdies to card an opening 64 but Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and eight-time Bay Hill champion Tiger Woods are all in the mix heading into Friday's second round.

Woods, who went close to a first victory in almost five years last week, reached three under before a double-bogey at the third (his 12th hole) checked his progress but three birdies saw him record a respectable four-under 68.

He tees off alongside Jason Day and Hideki Matsuyama in the 5.08pm threeball and is the right favourite at 5-4, although that price is short enough after the returning Matsuyama showed plenty of promise on Thursday.

A much more attractive bet could be to back Charley Hoffman, who looks overpriced when he tees off alongside Ryan Moore and Shane Lowry at 5.44pm.

Hoffman, who tied for the runner-up spot at Bay Hill last year, missed the cut at the Valspar but this track will be a lot more to his liking, even though his putter went cold in the first round.

Moore is the obvious challenger but he has a modest Bay Hill record, while Lowry struggled to a 75 on Thursday and has failed to finish in the top 40 in each of his last six PGA Tour starts.
